Majority of people use Windows operating system on their machine due to efficiency and performance offered in it. Showing My Computer on Desktop in Windows 8 and 8.1:

People have been used to common icons and user interface present in the previous versions of Windows operating system like presence of icons on the desktop, start menu etc. Users accessing Windows 8 and 8.1 have a problem that they can’t see the My Computer icon on the desktop of the operating system. In Windows 8 and 8.1 the name of ‘My Computer’ icon was changed to ‘This PC’. Through this guide you can show My Computer on desktop in Windows 8 and 8.1

Step 1:

For putting the My Computer icon on the desktop of your system, first you have to click on the Desktop tile present on the Metro UI of the operating system. On clicking on it, the normal desktop will come up in front of you.



Step 2:

After the desktop prompts up, right click on the desktop and select the ‘Personalize’ option for moving ahead in the process. On the Personalize option you have will see ‘Change desktop icons’ options.

Step 3:

On the Desktop Icon Settings dialog box, you will see various icons of Recycle Bin, User’s Files (My Documents), Control Panel and Computer. Then click on the Computer box for enabling the Computer icon on the desktop.



Step 4:

After making the change click on Apply for saving the changes and exit by clicking on OK. For confirming the change is done successfully, open your desktop and double-click on the This PC icon and it will be opened, due to the successful change made.
